REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

Bullying is pervasive. It begins with name-calling as well as hateful and false utterances. The bully’s ammunition is not a stick or a stone—it is “the word” and, in its unique way, that word becomes as dangerous and threatening as an actual physical weapon itself. I am founder and director of both EMPOWER THE BULLY!, and BULLYING STOPS TODAY! I’ve spent over three decades as teacher, counselor, guidance director, assistant principal, and principal in the schools of New York City and northern New Jersey, and have been privileged to present my program for The College Board, The National Association for Dropout Prevention, and Gateway to College, to name but a few. In my forthcoming book, In the Shadow of the Apple, I tell of how I was inspired to “keep on keeping on” and how, using the skills I developed (as indicated on these pages), I was able to transform the lives of bullies and those they bullied. Let us not forget that every child has a voice—and that includes the bully. We are here to help the educator find that voice within the bully—so that the bully can be EMPOWERED to use that voice positively.
